Developing effective dialogue (resource)
Resources to help you develop dialogue between your characters to develop tension, change dynamics, influence the balance of power and more.
Hey writers!
I hope you’re all doing well.
Today I’m sharing with you some resources that focus on developing dialogue. In particular, they will help you with developing tension, changing dynamics and the balance of power between characters.
I recently wrote about writing perfect dialogue which you can read here. That post is focused more on individual dialogue, while today’s resource is focused on how dialogue is important between multiple characters.
Writing the dialogue itself to feel authentic is important, but what we often don’t talk about is the more complicated aspects such as: How do we show character dynamics? How do we show and build tension? And how can we use dialogue to demonstrate and influence the balance of power between characters?
Dialogue in your novel should do one of the following things. It should reveal something about the nature of that character or a particular relationship, advance the plot in some way or create or reveal conflict.
If the dialogue you have written isn’t doing any of those things, is it necessary?
These are all questions that this resource is designed to help with. And below them I’ve written a little information about when and how to use the resource to get the most out of it.
